UAE Launches New Visa Categories - Green Visa, Freelancers Visa

The United Arab Emirates announced the launch of a new resident visa category called the Green Visa on Sunday. Green Visa holders can sponsor their sons' visas till their boys reach the age of 25. Sons are usually only sponsored until they reach the age of 18. Green visa holders can support their parents as well. The new Green Visa will not be linked to work permits from firms, according to Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade. It would be targeted at highly talented persons, investors, entrepreneurs, top students and graduates. He also announced a new category of Visa for freelancers. Green visa holders will be given a 90-180 day grace time to leave the country once their visas expire, rather than the current 30-day grace period. Golden Visa for Coders

The National Program for Coders has announced that the Golden Visa application procedure for qualified candidates has begun. The goal is to train and attract 100,000 coders within five years, build 1,000 digital enterprises, and increase startup investment from Dh1.5 billion to Dh4 billion.

To attract the best-qualified coders and graduates specializing in coding, this project is open to both UAE citizens and non-residents. This announcement is in line with national efforts to establish 1,000 major digital organizations in the UAE over the next five years to develop the country's digital market and prepare the necessary infrastructure to produce innovation and creativity capable of keeping up with rapid worldwide changes across a wide range of critical industries. Coders of all countries and ages are eligible to apply for the UAE golden visa.

The following individuals are eligible to apply for the UAE golden visas.

  • Distinguished experts and talents who achieved success in a variety of coding fields

  • Those who work for pioneering international technological organizations

  • Graduates of hardware engineering, software engineering, computer sciences, information technology, data science, big data, artificial intelligence, and electrical engineering.

The National Program for Coders will develop partnerships with various public, private and academic entities and technology firms in the UAE and abroad, including Google, Facebook, Microsoft, IBM, LinkedIn, Huawei, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Nvidia, Cisco and others.
