UAE Launches New Visa Categories - Green Visa, Freelancers Visa

The United Arab Emirates announced the launch of a new resident visa category called the Green Visa on Sunday. Green Visa holders can sponsor their sons' visas till their boys reach the age of 25. Sons are usually only sponsored until they reach the age of 18. Green visa holders can support their parents as well. The new Green Visa will not be linked to work permits from firms, according to Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade. It would be targeted at highly talented persons, investors, entrepreneurs, top students and graduates. He also announced a new category of Visa for freelancers. Green visa holders will be given a 90-180 day grace time to leave the country once their visas expire, rather than the current 30-day grace period. UAE to Grant Golden Visas to Humanitarian Pioneers

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has announced that pioneers of humanitarian work in the UAE would be awarded golden visas.

His Highness said, “Aid workers are ambassadors of the UAE and role models instilling pride in us all. Giving is embedded in the fabric of Emirati society and culture, and we aim to be the most vibrant humanitarian destination in the next fifty years.”

As an example of the UAE's efforts to lead humanitarian causes, His Highness pointed to the establishment of Dubai International Humanitarian City (IHC) in 2011. IHC, the world's largest humanitarian destination, is a non-profit, independent humanitarian free zone authority that hosts over 80 members, including UN organizations, non-profits and non-government organizations, and commercial companies.

The humanitarian work in the UAE has emerged in numerous initiatives since the start of the COVID-19 crisis. Over the past year, the country has organized emergency flights to evacuate the nationals of friendly countries from virus-affected areas and has housed them to ensure their treatment and return to their home countries. In addition, the country offered free treatment for serious cases through stem cells.

Humanitarian aid bridges arrived in more than 107 nations with critical medical and humanitarian aid despite the difficulties created by the circumstances. A fund was set up named "The Fund of the United Arab Emirates: Homeland of Humanity" to unify the national efforts to battle the virus and gave aid.

The country also played an important role in assisting the World Health Organization, WHO, to strengthen its strategic stockpile to combat COVID-19 and to support its efforts to continue the quick humanitarian response to countries in need. The organization operates from the International Humanitarian City in Dubai as its logistical headquarters, which is a major specialized worldwide logistics centre.
